FSC Certification Explained: What It Means for Your Timber

FSC certification is the gold standard for sustainable forestry. Here is what you need to know.

What is FSC?

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit organization that sets standards for responsible forest management.

Types of FSC Certification

FSC 100%

Products made entirely from FSC-certified forests. The highest level of certification.

FSC Mix

Products made from a mixture of FSC-certified and controlled wood sources.

FSC Recycled

Products made from reclaimed or recycled wood fiber.

Chain of Custody

Chain of custody (CoC) certification tracks wood from the forest through every step of the supply chain:

  1. Forest management
  2. Sawmill processing
  3. Manufacturing
  4. Distribution
  5. Final sale

Why It Matters

  • Legal compliance: Meets EUTR, Lacey Act, and other regulations
  • Market access: Required by many European buyers
  • Brand value: Demonstrates environmental responsibility
  • Due diligence: Provides documented proof of legal sourcing

Our Certification

Green Valley Inc. holds FSC Chain of Custody certification (FSC-C123456), ensuring full traceability of all certified products.
